A couple weeks ago, I wrote a review about the new Toy Story Mania! iPhone app and mentioned that special features are available for users who play the game near the attractions in Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Disney’s California Adventure theme parks. Since I was visiting Hollywood Studios this weekend for Disney’s annual Night of Joy festival, I got in line for Toy Story Midway Mania (the wait was only 20 minutes!) and tried to access the special features.
Per the instructions in iTunes, the extras can be unlocked by going to the Gallery and tapping Search. I tried this a number of times while waiting in line, but each time I received a message indicating I was not near the Toy Story attraction. I was a bit surprised by this, as I assumed that Disney would have set up several proximity sensors (or however location is determined; I don’t think it was GPS because the iPhone didn’t ask if I would allow the app to use my location), especially since playing the game is a great way to spend the often 60+ minute wait in line.
After riding the attraction, I returned to the entrance and tried to unlock the extras again. This time I was close enough to the proximity sensor and the special features were made available. The features turned out to be 19 iPhone wallpapers, which I suppose isn’t surprising since they are under the Gallery section of the app. I saved all of them to the Photos app on my iPhone so that I could use them as wallpaper in the future.
For those interested in saving them to your iPhone (or any other reason, I suppose), here are the 19 wallpapers:

I have the app for the iTouch. Any idea if it works for the iTouch as well?
Kelly – As far as I know, this works on the iPod Touch, too, as the app is the same for both the iPhone and the Touch.
I actually believe it will *not* work for the iPod Touch as it uses Location Services to determine where you are. But I could be wrong.
I too had great difficulty getting into a spot where it would activate. I found being about 5 feet away away with the standby entrance (at WDW) diagonally to my right finally worked.
That's a good point, Brad. Also, I'm happy to know I wasn't the only person who had trouble finding just the right spot :^D
